In daily practice, however, the duties and functions of the chair are\ncarried out by an acting President pro tempore, and temporary presiding officers, often junior\nSenators, who rotate in the chair for shifts of generally one hour each. Since 1977, only\nmajority-party Senators have been appointed to preside over the Senate, except during the\npower-sharing period of the 107th Congress (2001-2002), when chamber control was evenly divided. \nThis report will be updated as warranted.", "type": "CRS Report", "typeId": "REPORTS", "active": false, "formats": [ { "format": "PDF", "encoding": null, "url": "http://www.crs.gov/Reports/pdf/RS21553", "sha1": "6ef046baf84e204f5f7327568445bd42e730763b", "filename": "files/20031125_RS21553_6ef046baf84e204f5f7327568445bd42e730763b.pdf", "images": null }, { "format": "HTML", "filename": "files/20031125_RS21553_6ef046baf84e204f5f7327568445bd42e730763b.html" } ], "topics": [] }, { "source": "University of North Texas Libraries Government Documents Department", "sourceLink": "https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metacrs4048/", "id": "RS21553 2003-06-23", "date": "2003-06-23", "retrieved": "2005-06-11T00:06:45", "title": "Presiding Officer: Senate", "summary": null, "type": "CRS Report", "typeId": "REPORT", "active": false, "formats": [ { "format": "PDF", "filename": "files/20030623_RS21553_7936b4c528f1d46d9a6c6e57c7c2ac0dcf621ba0.pdf" }, { "format": "HTML", "filename": "files/20030623_RS21553_7936b4c528f1d46d9a6c6e57c7c2ac0dcf621ba0.html" } ], "topics": [ { "source": "LIV", "id": "Congress", "name": "Congress" }, { "source": "LIV", "id": "Senate leadership", "name": "Senate leadership" } ] } ], "topics": [ "American Law" ] }
